The history of the municipality is closely linked to the end of the conquest of the island of Tenerife, as it was precisely here that the valiant Guanche menceyes surrendered.
The historian from Realejo, José de Viera y Clavijo, recounts:
“This famous position of both armies gave its name to that territory from then on. So the place where the conquerors were located was called Realejo de Arriba, and the one occupied by the Guanches, Realejo de Abajo.”
For his part, the historian Millares Torres adds:
“On the morning of July 25, when the Church celebrates the feast of Santiago, the five Guanche kings crossed the ravine that separated the two camps: Bencomo, Beneharo, Acaymo, Tegueste, and Zebenzui, and the general, with flags unfurled, drums, clarions, and accompanied by his principal officers, went out to meet them, giving Bencomo an affectionate embrace.”
This event marked the end of the conquest of Tenerife and the definitive incorporation of the Canary Islands into the Crown of Castile.

From Tenerife North Airport
Take the TF-5 north highway towards Puerto de la Cruz, Icod de los Vinos, and after approximately 28 kilometers, take exit number 39 where the highway ends.
At the first roundabout, take the third exit to cross the highway and reach the next roundabout, where you will take the second exit towards Los Realejos. A few meters ahead, get in the center lane to turn left towards Calle Los Cuartos. This ascent ends on the TF-333, in front of a SHELL service station. Turn right and when you reach a roundabout, return along the TF-333 for about 300 m and before reaching the next roundabout, take Calle Los Afligidos until you reach the house.

From Tenerife South Airport
Head along the TF-1 highway towards Santa Cruz. Take exit number 6 towards TF-2/ La Laguna / Aeropuerto Norte. Continue on TF-2 for about 4 kilometers and stay in the left lane to join the TF-5 highway.
Continue on the TF-5 towards Puerto de la Cruz, Icod de los Vinos, and after approximately 28 kilometers, take exit number 39 where the highway ends.
